Visit IndianaWines' website for a comprehensive list of the state's wineries (see Resources below). Regularly updated, the site also includes special event listings and links to individual winery websites and tour information.
Choose a region of Indiana to visit. Though the Indianapolis area is common choice, consider visiting the northern or southern regions of the state. There are many small, quaint operations in these areas and other sites to see as well.
Plan your trip by choosing four to six wineries to visit a day or choosing a wine tour to follow. Indiana has three main wine tours-the Indiana Wine Trail in Southeast Indiana, Indiana Uplands tour in the central and southern areas of the state and the Indy trail near Indianapolis.
Book accommodations for your stay. Call the wineries for suggestions; they're familiar with the area. Indiana is home to many bed and breakfasts, rental cottages, campgrounds and traditional hotels.
Map out your trip and plan to spend an hour at each winery. Many wineries also offer other interesting attractions such as apple orchards, hayrides and tours of the processing area. Call ahead to confirm hours of operation and tasting schedules.
