Regulations covering the use of fire pits in Calgary are set at the city level. The law dealing with fire pits is in Calgary's Community Standards Bylaw 5M2004.
According to Calgary law, fire pits must be contained by a material that isn't flammable. You must build the pit in the bare ground or on top of a safe material, such as brick.
Fire pits cannot be closer than six feet to a property line or structure. You can't put them under a tree or other flammable object.
You must keep the fire small. This is defined as a maximum of 3 feet in width and height.
You cannot leave a fire pit unattended. Fires must be out between 1 a.m. and 10 a.m.
