Amazon Rainforest Location: Not in Chile

The Amazon rainforest is not in Chile. It spans nine South American countries:

• Brazil (~60%)
• Peru (~13%)
• Colombia (~10%)
• Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana (remaining ~17%)

Chile's Geography

Chile occupies a narrow 4,300km strip along South America's southwestern Pacific coast, separated from the Amazon Basin by the Andes Mountains. Its climates range from:

• Atacama Desert (north, driest on Earth)
• Mediterranean (central, Santiago)
• Temperate rainforest (south, Valdivian)
• Subpolar (far south, Patagonia)

Key Distinction

The Amazon is a tropical lowland rainforest east of the Andes. Chile's southern temperate rainforests (Valdivian) are ecologically distinct—cooler, different species, no Amazonian connection. The Andes form a complete biogeographic barrier.

Chile has exceptional biodiversity but zero Amazon rainforest territory.
