Wisconsin Gay Bars

Wisconsin has a thriving gay and lesbian community that can enjoy the fact their state broke ground in many areas of gay rights. It was the first state to pass a law barring discrimination based on sexual orientation and the state's capital of Madison is represented in Congress by a lesbian. Cities and towns all across the state have gay bars for residents that provide nightly entertainment as well yearly pride festivities celebrating gay civil rights.

    • Known for its professional football team, the NFL's's Packers, the port city of Green Bay has several gay bars. The Shelter Club in the Old Downtown neighborhood features theme nights every day of the week for its patrons. The clientele of the Shelter Club is mixed as men and women frequent the establishment. In addition to dancing, there are drag shows and go-go dancers. The bar has a full menu including a Sunday brunch selection. There are daily food specials and nightly drink specials, including a happy hour.

    Ravens

    • The small city of Appleton in east central Wisconsin has two gay bars, including Ravens, a multi-room complex featuring a dance floor, a video bar and a lounge area. The video bar features a VJ and flat screen monitors. Regular events include Thursday night karaoke and monthly drag queen revues. There are nightly drink specials including all you can drink offers on the weekends.

    Club 5

    • Club 5 in Madison is a large gay club that caters to the GLBT community but draws a mixed crowd to its multi-room complex. Club 5 features a huge dance floor that also doubles as a performance space. The other rooms of Club 5 include a male-oriented bar space called The Barracks and a bar area for women called the Foxhole. During the summer, the club hosts one of the city's main gay pride events, the Wisconsin Capital Pride Pageant. There are nightly drink specials and the club has a text alert for patrons to learn about the latest events and offers.

    LaCage

    • LaCage is located in Walkers Point, an area with several of Milwaukee's gay establishments. It features six bars, two dance floors and multiple video screens throughout the building. There is a stage as well as a lounge area called Montage. Patrons can order food and there are drink specials each night that the club is open. There are frequent drag queen shows including pageants like Miss Gay Wisconsin, the qualifying contest for Miss Gay USA
