Charlie’s is one of the oldest gay bars in Phoenix with more than 25 years of catering to Phoenix’s gay community. The club features theme nights every day of the week and daily drink specials. Charlie’s has a diverse selection of DJs spinning different styles. Customers can take two-step lesson on Tuesdays, line dancing classes on Thursdays and then dance to country music on Friday night until 11 p.m. During the early hours of the morning on weekends, the club DJ spins high-energy dance music until 4 a.m. On Sunday afternoons, the club features clogging then go-go dancers. Karamba Nightclub features Latin music. The club hosts nightly drag queen shows and a gay idol showcase. There are three bars and an outdoor patio. The DJs spin a variety of Latin music styles, including salsa, meringue and reggaeton. National magazines such as Details and Out profiled Karamba, giving it high marks. Out rated it as one of the “Top 50 Gay Bars” in the world in 2007. Karamba sponsors benefits for community organizations such as AIDS Walk Phoenix and has conducted voter registration drives.

zGirl Club is a bar that caters to lesbians; however, gay men also go to the club. It is open seven days a week and features theme nights such as Wednesday karaoke and Thursday “Manicures and Martinis,” featuring fruit flavored drinks. Thursday evenings are Latino dance party nights. There a daily drinks specials, and happy hour starts at 5 p.m. The club hosts football parties on Sundays during the NFL season and special events such as burlesque shows throughout the year.
