Old Hamburger Restaurants in Chicago

As a red meat kind of town, it should come as no surprise that the Windy City enjoys a vast array of hamburger joints. A web search query turns up no less than 951 restaurants, diners and fast-food stands that serve burgers in the Chicagoland area. Of these eateries, there are several old hamburger restaurants that hold a special place in the hearts and stomachs of those who live and eat in the City of Big Shoulders.
  1. Hackney's

    • With five locations around the Chicagoland area, as well as its flagship restaurant in the Printer's Row neighborhood of Chicago, Hackney's has served its famous "Hackneyburger" since 1939. The burger is served on a dark rye bun, which is baked fresh daily in the restaurant's old bakery with no preservatives. As a side dish, try the French-fried onions, which are served in a hot, crispy loaf.
