Minnesota does not have designated public smoking areas—because smoking is prohibited in virtually all indoor public spaces and workplaces statewide. The Freedom to Breathe Act (2007) banned smoking in bars, restaurants, offices, and other enclosed public venues. Subsequent laws extended restrictions to parks, beaches, and building entrances in many municipalities.
While some outdoor areas may permit smoking, there are no state-sanctioned "public smoking areas" akin to designated zones in other jurisdictions. The policy reflects a comprehensive public-health approach to eliminating secondhand smoke exposure.
