This premier entertainment destination is located a short 10 minutes from downtown Houston and features dining and live entertainment such as concerts and special events. You can rent the venue for different occasions, including festivals, company picnics and car and truck shows.
If you prefer to watch dog racing over horse racing, Gulf Greyhound Park (gulfgreyhound.com) offers both live and simulcasting greyhound racing just 30 miles south of Houston. The track opened in 1992 and covers more than 110 acres. Dining is available. The venue can be rented, and you can request a visit from a retired greyhound to see why these noble, beautiful animals make a great pet to adopt.
If being a spectator isn't your thing, head on over to Houston Motorsports Park (houstonmotorsportspark.com,) located in northeast Houston off of Lake Houston Parkway. This self-toted "Palace of Power" offers you the opportunity to show off your hot rod or classic car in addition to putting you behind the wheel for your own drag race. This venue is open to street legal and racing vehicles as well as motorcycles, which all must pass a safety tech inspection prior to the race. You must have either a valid state-issued driver's license or NHRA Competition License to be eligible to race, and you must sign a waiver.
Another more interactive racing experience can be had through Houston Adventure Racing (houstonadventureracing.com.) Adventure racing mixes several disciplines, such as biking, running and paddling, and Houston Adventure Racing constructs courses that, while challenging, are geared to be completed by a variety of racers whether they are beginners or veterans. You can rent gear such as bikes and boats through Houston Adventure Racing, and training camps are available.
