The Department of State Health Services (DSHS) is the official government entity in Texas that issues certified and non-certified copies of Texas birth certificates. DSHS offers an online portal that allows you to order birth certificates for births that occurred within the past 75 years. Birth certificate requests take 10 to 15 business days to process and an additional three to five days' mailing time for receipt.
Open the web browser on your computer and go to the DSHS Vital Records Application site (see Resources).
Select "Birth Certificate" from the drop-down menu and click "Continue."
Select the state that issued your driver's license or identification card from the drop-down menu. Select your relationship to the person whose birth certificate you are requesting from the drop-down menu and enter the date of birth on the birth certificate you are requesting.
Check the box indicating you agree to the terms and conditions of the website and click the "Continue" button.
Enter the requested information about the birth certificate you want to request, and your personal information including your current address and driver's license or identification information. Click the "Continue" button.
Enter your credit card information to pay for your order. Verify and confirm your information and click "Continue" to place your order.
