Children's Activities in Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha is on the Missouri River in Douglas County, Nebraska. Families visiting Omaha will find many activities and attractions for children. The city is home to a long list of festivals including the Summer Arts Festival in June as well as parks and museums, such as El Museo Latino, the first Latino art, history museum and cultural center in the Midwest.

  1. Play Indoor Games

    • The Amazing Pizza Machine and Family Fun Center feature indoor rides and attractions under one roof. The Amazing Pizza Machine has riding go-karts and bumper cars, and over 100 video games and redemption prize games. In Family Fun Center, kids can play over 200 arcade games, redemption prize games, laser tag, glow golf, paintball and bazooka ball. Children can also celebrate birthday parties in both places.

      Admission to the Amazing Pizza Machine is the price of the buffet, with over 100 food items, plus drink. The cost of games varies in Family Fun Center depending on the game.

    Enjoy the Outdoors

    • Visit Fontenelle Forest and Neale Woods Nature Center, where kids can walk along 26 miles of trails and view wildlife including deer, geese and foxes. The little ones can view children's exploration exhibits and live animal displays.

      At the 130-acre Pooley's Pumpkin Patch – a real working farm – children can pick their own pumpkin, enjoy hay and pony rides, visit the petting zoo and find their way through a corn or straw maze.

      Fontenelle Forest Nature Center is open daily and children 2 and under are free. Pooley's Pumpkin Patch is open in from late September to October but closed on Mondays.

    Cool Off in a Water Park

    • Fun Plex is Nebraska’s largest water park. Children can ride a 70-foot-high roller coaster, slide down five-story waterslides and go tubing along a lazy river. Kids can also ride go-karts, play an 18-hole round of mini golf and those 10 and under can play in the kiddie pool. Celebrate your child's birthday party here and experience all the other rides and attractions in the park.

      Park hours are based on the time of the year; admission fees apply.

    Visit a Museum

    • Children can learn and play in the Omaha Children’s Museum, which has interactive permanent exhibits focused on art, science and early childhood.The museum features the giant ball machine, a kid-sized grocery store, the fire rescue area, and a science and technology lab. Children can also participate in workshops, daily educational programs and special events, and celebrate birthdays here.

      The Omaha Children’s Museum is open year round but closed on major holidays and Mondays, except some Mondays during school holidays. Admission for kids 2 and under is free.
