Summer camps can be very beneficial to developing teenagers. Allowing them to get away from parents over the summer, meet with peers, build friendships and prepare for life away from home, summer camps can also teach teenagers particular skills and can instill lifelong passions. With multiple locations across the city of Albuquerque, YMCA offers a number of teen summer camps, enabling participants to have fun while they build character. For teens entering grades 7-9, there is a Leadership Camp offered that gives participants the chance to decide what the group does. From art and humanities projects to field trips and fitness activities, teens learn how to work together toward common goals.
There is also a Counselor in Training camp where teens learn to become counselors to younger kids through child-care and safety courses, and Camp Surf, an annual summer trip from Albuquerque to San Diego where teens can learn to surf and body-board.

The Jewish Community Center of Albuquerque offers a multitude of summer camps for any teen looking to celebrate her culture. Two such camps include one that teaches Israeli dance and another that specializes in Israeli culture. Each is taught by visiting shlichim, youth educators hailing directly from Israel. There are also JCC camps for the performing arts, horseback riding, and swimming. Additionally, there is usually a field trip each summer for youths (which has traveled to places such as Malibu, California) and a traditional camp for older teens with activities that include hiking, museum visits, and a visit to the University of New Mexico campus.

Advantage Basketball Camps are summer camps that focuses on training teens to be better basketball players. While Advantage Camps are available across the nation, there are a number of specific camps located in the Albuquerque area, including weeklong ball-handling and shooting classes. Besides improving the skills of participants, Advantage Basketball Camps also seek to build self-esteem and demonstrate the importance of team work. Both boys and girls are welcome, and teens may participate up to the age of 18.
