As stated on the official website, the economy hit the number one rated Memphis comedy club Comedy Tennessee hard and the club had to close its doors. But Memphis residents still have venues to enjoy stand-up comedy, and in fact headlining comedians like Sinbad and Craig Ferguson perform at halls and theaters in and around the Memphis area. Clubs devoted to comedy are a little more scarce, but still available on limited basis.
Big Funny Productions keep the comedy rolling in Memphis. They host shows at venues like Minglewood Hall, events like the Funniest Person in Memphis contest, and thanks to their Skitz Comedy Club, stand-up comedy is available several times a week at Neil's on Madison. They host open mic events in addition to regular shows on Tuesdays for no cover charge, and special shows periodically Fridays and Saturdays for $10.
