Cheapest Golf Courses in Myrtle Beach

Like any golf destination, Myrtle Beach golf fees fluctuate with the seasons, but to get the best rates, golfers can book hotel packages that include free green fees or deep discounts. The resort area's golf courses also use their own and various independent websites to offer last-minute discounts and coupons. The rates will be highest during the peak season of February through May. December and January offer the best golf prices, albeit the most unpredictable weather. Other affordable options are available just outside of Myrtle Beach, in Conway and North Myrtle Beach.

  1. Whispering Pines Golf Course

    • Owned by the City of Myrtle Beach, Whispering Pines Golf Course offers a true golf sanctuary. Audubon International designated Whispering Pines as the only "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" in Myrtle Beach for its efforts in maintaining natural areas and wildlife habitats. Golfers can expect tree-lined fairways and undulating greens. Walking rates range $26 to $40, while the fee with cart ranges $35 to $58, as of March 2010. Whispering Pines offers four sets of tees from 5,176 to 6,771 yards, with the back tees rated at 73.2/129. In 2003, the "Sun News" readers voted Whispering Pines the locals' favorite course.

    Myrtlewood Golf Club

    • Golfers have two 18-hole courses from which to choose at Myrtlewood Golf Club, including the PineHills course, named best new resort course after its redesign in 1993 and since named one of the top 10 courses in Myrtle Beach, both by "Golf Digest." Four sets of tees ranging 4,906 yards for the forward tees to 6,640 yards for the back tees, which are rated 72.0 with a slope of 130. PineHills and the other Myrtlewood course, the Palmetto, are set along the Intracoastal Waterway. In redesigning PineHills, architect Arthur Hills added mounding and strategically placed water hazards. The Palmetto Course is a classic par 3 for beginners or experienced golfers who want to work on their short game. Rack rates as of March 2010 begin at $48 (cart included), but discounts for booking online bring the starting rate down to $39.

    Heron Point Golf Club

    • Heron Point proudly displays its mission statement on its web page: "To have the most well maintained, reasonably priced golf course in Myrtle Beach." "Golf" magazine apparently agreed, voting Heron Point “best bang for your buck” in Myrtle Beach in 2005. "Golf Digest" also honored Heron Point with a 3.5-star rating. The 18-hole resort course's narrow pine-tree-lined fairways, hidden water hazards and well-bunkered greens make it a true shot-maker's course. The four sets of tees range 4,734 yards to 6475 yards, with the back tees rated 70.9/129. Golf fees as of March 2010 range $37 to $59, but one of the best values at Heron Point is the ongoing Thursday afternoon 9-hole scramble at $25 per person, including golf fees, snacks, beverage and prizes.
