The rugged beaches of Ogunquit, Maine, face east across the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean, providing a place where lovers of the outdoors can find seemingly endless opportunities for fishing, swimming, hiking, boating and exploration. Experiencing the Ogunquit area in a single day is a daunting task, but several campgrounds in this secluded corner of Maine provide a place to pitch your tent or park your RV while you discover all that Ogunquit has to offer.
The Pinederosa Camping Area sits scarcely a minute north of Ogunquit on North Village Road. Shaded by the dense pine and hardwood forest, the campground includes more than 90 campsites, with accommodations for tents as well as RVs. Full-hookup campsites with water, sewer and electricity are available, along with nonelectric campsites and sites with water and electricity only. Campers have access to laundry facilities and bath houses with restrooms and showers. Walking trails, an in-ground pool and country store are on-site, and the beach is five minutes away. The Pinederosa Camping Area is open from June to September.
Visitors to Dixon's Coastal Maine Campground can choose among more than 100 campsites, including sites with electricity and water hookups open to both tents and RVs. Primitive tent-only sites are also available, along with seasonal RV sites with full hookups. Most of the campground is densely wooded, but open, grassy sites are also available for those who prefer a little more sun. Centrally located bathhouses provide restrooms and showers. Dixon's Coastal Maine Campground is about 2 miles south of Ogunquit, and -- despite its name -- about 3 miles from the coast, but its setting amid 26 acres of pristine forest makes it ideal for campers looking for peace and quiet. The camping season runs from mid-May to mid-September.
About 15 miles north of Ogunquit, Gregoire's Campgrounds has full-hookup RV campsites with water and sewer hookups, electrical service, free Wi-Fi and cable TV. If you prefer something a little more rustic, nonelectric tent sites are also available. The campsites are spread across 30 acres, and campers can choose between sites that are shady and secluded or open and spacious. Amenities include modern restrooms, hot showers, RV dump stations, a playground, recreation hall and camp store. Gregoire's Campgrounds is located along a trolley line that takes visitors to the nearby town of Wells and back, and provides easy access to the beach. Barring severe weather, you can camp from May 15 to September 15.
Beach Acres Campground is one of the nearest campgrounds to the coast in the Ogunquit area -- less than a mile away -- making it close enough that you can hike or bike to the beach in less than 20 minutes. The campground is primarily an RV resort, with nightly and seasonal sites that include full water, sewer and electric hookups, though a few nonelectric tent sites are also available. Beach Acres is less secluded than many other campgrounds in the area, but most of the large, open campsites include at least one or two shade trees. Modern restrooms, laundry facilities and an RV dumping station are provided, along with a swimming pool, playground and shuffleboard court.
