Pet-Friendly RV Campgrounds Near Chattanooga, Tennessee

Chattanooga's dynamic downtown and natural attractions helped earn the city a spot on "The New York Times" list of "The 45 Places to Go in 2012." The city's location along the Tennessee River and Smoky Mountains provides the perfect setting for an outdoor adventure, while the burgeoning art scene and progressive cuisine make for a fun night on the town. When you’re ready to enjoy the Southern hospitality of Chattanooga, there’s no need to leave your pet behind, as several RV parks within the city and just outside welcome your four-legged friend.
  1. Stay Close to the Action

    • Park your RV on a shaded, gravel site at Camping World Chattanooga Campground, which accommodates rigs up to 60 feet long and includes space for pull-thrus and slide-outs. All 55 sites have full hookups, Wi-Fi access and a table, while showers and a dump station are nearby. You can take your pup for a walk around the lake, then stock up on supplies and dog food at the camp store. Additional amenities include a pool and playground, as well as an RV service center and wash.

    Underground Exploration

    • Raccoon Mountain RV Park & Campground is adjacent to Raccoon Mountain Caverns and has full-hookup sites with Wi-Fi for RVs. A bathhouse with private showers, laundry facility and dump station are available on the grounds, and a swimming pool is open seasonally. For entertainment, there's a playground, ladder ball, shuffleboard, game room, go-karts and hiking trails. You can also explore 5.5 miles of underground passageways in the caverns or try your luck panning for gems. Pets are welcome at the campground, except for pit bulls, pit bull mixes, Dobermans and Rottweilers. All pets must be on a leash when outdoors and must wear a valid rabies tag.

    Keep an Eagle Eye

    • About 20 miles northeast is Harrison Bay State Park, which encompasses lush forest land along the Chickamauga Lake shoreline. The park's 128 RV sites have water and electrical hookups, and a bathhouse, dumping station and playground are within the camping area. Spend the day fishing for largemouth bass, crappie and catfish -- you'll need a state fishing license -- or hike or bike the nature trails for views of the lake. Keep your eyes peeled for bald eagles, which frequent the area. Pets are allowed at the campsites, but you must pay a small fee, sign a waiver and keep them on a leash at all times.

    Fun for the Family

    • About 20 minutes away in Trenton, Lookout Mountain/Chattanooga West KOA has pull-thru, back-in and pull-in RV sites with either full or partial hookups. All sites are in wooded areas, and some include a wooden deck. After hiking through 25 acres of forest, take aim in the mini-marshmallow “Shootin’ Gallery” or cool off in the saltwater pool. Kids will have a great time bouncing on the jumping pillow, and the family can enjoy a little friendly competition with a game of disc golf or horseshoes. Dogs are permitted at the campground provided they remain on a leash no longer than 6 feet when outside your RV.
