Check with your airline to learn the size regulations and fees associated with your checked and carry-on luggage. Some airlines charge for checked baggage, some allow a certain number of bags for free before they begin charging and all airlines charge for oversized and/or overweight luggage.
Review the TSA's luggage policy prior to packing. Weapons and sports equipment are permitted only in checked luggage. Explosives are not permitted in any luggage. Liquids in your carry-on luggage must be in containers three ounces or smaller and must all fit into a 1 quart clear bag.
Find out what the weather is at your destination. Do this by checking the weather channel or calling your hotel. Pack appropriately for the weather.
Consider your activities on your trip when packing your luggage. Pack appropriately for where you are staying, what activities you are participating in and what events you are attending.
Pack your essentials, such as cell phone chargers, cameras, camera batteries and your personal items such as contact lenses, wallets, identification and passport -- if applicable.
