How to Create a Photo for an MTA Card

The New York City Transit Authority's Metropolitan Transit Authority offers standard MetroCards to pay for transportation on their buses and subways but also offers a Reduced-Fare MetroCard for those who are age 65 or older or have a disability. Use of the Reduced-Fare MetroCard allows you to travel at half off the standard fare. Your Reduced-Fare MetroCard includes your name and your photo and is non-transferrable. You can apply for a MetroCard in person at the walk-in service center or through an MTA mobile sales center, or by mail. If you apply by mail, you must provide your own photo.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a photo at a MTA Service Center. Visit the walk-in service center at 3 Stone Street in Lower Manhattan, weekdays between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, or one of the MTA's Senior Citizen MetroCard centers on their designated day.

Bring verification of your age if you are over 65, and a Medicare card or application certified by a physician if you are disabled. Complete the application.
