Set the emergency brake on the RV. Place a step stool next to the awning so you have access to the side of the awning.
Assign your helper to the RV awning retraction switch. Stand on the step stool and insert needle nose pliers or vise grips onto the end coil of the awning fabric on the side of the broken spring. Have the helper turn the switch to begin the motor to retract the awning.
Twist the pliers to coil the fabric as the motor retracts the awning. The broken spring side will not coil, so you'll need to hand coil the fabric. The opposite side will coil as normal, but keep up with it. Coordinate with your helper to turn off the motor to allow you to keep time with the operating side-coil of the awning.
Push the slider rod up as the opposite side's rod retracts. Clip the awning security clips once the fabric is coiled and the rods are up and retracted.
