Check your owner's manual to become familiar with all parts of your awning.
Unroll your awning to its open position.
Disconnect the lower arm that connects with the lower portion of the RV from the RV by unscrewing the screws that hold it to the outer wall. Also disconnect the screws that connect that arm to the upper arm.
Have one person hold the roller tube (the tube which the awning rolls around when retracting it) while another person straightens the lower arm. Twist the arm away from the RV to tighten the tension, and toward the RV to loosen it. When the awning looks tight, stop twisting. Typically, you will only need to twist the arm one revolution to tighten it.
Reinstall the arm back to its position on the RV outer wall, and reconnect it with the upper arm. While you are reinstalling the arm, have someone holding the roller tube, or place a tall ladder under it to keep it from moving around while you're placing the arm back in its position.
Roll up your awning and then unroll it again to test the tension.
