How to File a Complaint With the DOT

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) oversees interstate and international transportation through its many federal sub-agencies. These include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Federal Motor Carrier Administration (FMCA). Making a timely and detailed complaint can help improve service and safety for everyone.

The federal DOT generally oversees modes of transportation but not roads. If the problem is with a local road, direct your complaint to your city or county transportation department. If the problem is with a state or interstate highway, contact your state's department of transportation.
