How to Add Room Tents for RVs

Making a room addition for a trailer or RV can be accomplished in one afternoon. The screened addition makes a great place for having meals or hiding from bugs while still being outside. An addition can be constructed using screen walls and PVC for supports. Tarps work great as ceilings and doors. A portable screened room is a great addition for any camping enthusiast.

Instructions

    • 1

Establish the size of the room. Don't make it taller than the height of your trailer, but the length and width are up to you. Ten feet by 10 feet is usually an adequate size for most campers and RVs.

    • 2

Saw 24 lengths of PVC pipe that is ¾-inch in diameter. These will be the support posts for the tent. Using five-foot lengths that can be attached and reattached makes the tent easy to collapse and store.

    • 3

Join the framing pieces using PVC fittings. Use the ¾-inch fittings. Put together a 10-foot-by-10-foot cube using the joiners to create 12 10-foot lengths. Then use four corner pieces on the bottom and four on the top to finish the assembly.

    • 4

Clamp four pieces of screen to each side of the frame. The pieces of screen should be slightly larger than 10 foot by 10 foot. Clamp a piece of tarp to the top of the frame for a ceiling.

    • 5

Stitch the screen panels together. Use only enough stitching to hold the panels in place. Also stitch the panels lightly to the tarp. Take the tent off the frame and use a sewing machine to stitch the panels together. Triple stitch seams the length of the panels to make the tent durable.

    • 6

Put the screen back on the frame and establish where the doors will be placed. Cut pieces of tarp large enough for doors and sew them into the tent. Again use a sewing machine and make these stitches as strong as possible. Leave one side of the door open so that you can pass through.
