How to Make an Outdoor Room for Cats in a Motorhome

Motorhomes are small and have limited space for not only you and your family, but the family pets as well. Cats need an area to run free and play just like dogs, but it's harder to put a cat on a leash. One solution to this problem is adding a play room outside for the feline friends.

  • Saw and blades

Instructions

    • 1

Find a location on the passenger side where you can cut a hole into the floor free of any obstacles such as wires and lights inside of the RV. Choose a spot where you can't see any lights and wires running along the floor and wall. Measure 1 foot square.

    • 2

Drill a hole in one of the inside corners of the square you measured. With your saw, carefully cut out the square.

    • 3

Attach the hinges with screws to hold the square in place to open like a trap door. Then attach the lock to hold door shut.

    • 4

Set up the dog cage in front of basement door outside of the RV. Look at the panel up against the RV and mark the metal caging where it reaches bottom of the RV and top of basement door (located near the wheels of the RV). With wire cutters, cut from these marks, leaving an opening in the middle of panels.

    • 5

Tie the cage to the RV with a rope. Pull a rope through the cage sides and through the hole cut into the RV and tie it tight with knots. You can also attach a clip to one end and make a loop on the other end so you can easily attach the cage to the motorhome every time you park somewhere new. Put a tarp over the top of the cage and bungee the tarp to the cage. Stake the cage to the ground with 10 stakes.
