How to Keep Bugs Out of a Screen Room Tent

If you enjoy camping and do it often, you might have your own screen-room tent. These tents are not designed for sleeping, but for keeping a picnic table or other objects screened in, away from the elements. Even if you have the smallest hole or access point, bugs are going to find a way into the screen-room tent. But there are a few techniques you can use to banish the bugs, keeping your environment pest-free.

Things You'll Need

  • Wood
  • Lighter
  • Citronella candles

Instructions

    • 1

Build a fire near your screen-room tent. Bugs and mosquitoes do not like fire and will stay clear of it. Keeping the fire lit is going to help keep the bugs away from your campground.

    • 2

Light outdoor citronella candles around the exterior of the screen-room tent. These candles give off a chemical that bugs do not like. Placing one at every corner of your screen-room tent can prevent bugs from entering.

    • 3

Keep your lanterns and other lights away from your screen-room tent at night. Place these on the other side of the campground. The bugs are going to be attracted to the lights and go to the other side of the camp, away from your tents.

    • 4

Stay away from running water and extremely wooded areas, if possible. Bugs are going to be more prevalent in these areas.

    • 5

Spray the exterior of your screen-room tent with bug spray. The spray can keep the bugs away from the tent and keep you bug-free inside.
