How to Raise & Lower an Awning

The process for raising or lowering an awning will depend on the model and manufacturer of the awning, and some may be motorized. Traditional awning design requires a person to use a long tool called an awning hook to manually raise or lower the shade that hangs several feet over his head.

Instructions

    • 1

Lift the awning hook to the gear operation side of the awning kit and hook the awning tool hook through the awning gear loop.

    • 2

Twist the awning hook clock-wise to open/lower the awning, or counter-clock-wise to close/raise the awning.

    • 3

Continue to twist the hook until the awning is (a) closed--the canvas is completely retracted and folded or rolled tight on the roller tube, or (b) open--the canvas is extended to the desired length and the shade overhangs at the desired height .

    • 4

Secure the arms of the awning in the open position, locking them in place to prevent the awning from slipping or hanging loose.
