How to Replace Roof Vents in RVs

Age and mother nature can destroy any plastic vent, appliance, cover or anything else that sticks out of the roof of your RV. UV rays will ruin the plastic of a vent to the extent that even contact with a small branch will totally destroy it. Hailstorms can also very easily destroy anything on the roof. If you find that a vent on your roof was destroyed, let's see what we can do to replace it.

Things You'll Need

  • Ladder
  • Wrench
  • Old hinge cover

Instructions

    • 1

Place a large ladder up against the RV. Make sure it is stable. Climb to the roof and take down the old hinge cover.

    • 2

Take an old hinge cover to the RV parts store to help you get the right one. Make sure you get the correct size to fit the hole.

    • 3

Take the pins out of the hinge on the old vent. No matter what, the pins must come out of the hinge.

    • 4

Straighten out the tabs that go into the old vent and take off the lid.

    • 5

Straighten out the tabs that go into the new vent.

    • 6

Insert the tabs into the new roof vent.

    • 7

      Replace the hinges.
