How to Replace an RV Vent Lid Cover

AN RV roof vent allows for the flow of air. This circulation helps to keep the camping cabin of the rig fresh and comfortable. The roof vents are covered for transport with lid covers, essentially a type of self-sealing lid not unlike a plastic food container top. Depending on your RV's roof vents, the covers attach via a retaining rod, snap covers or clasps and latches. Replacing a cover requires finding the replacement part at an RV goods store and following the cover maker's instructions.

    • 1

Take a picture of the RV roof vent and cover. If you have no camera, write down any serial or part numbers on the RV roof vent.

Purchase the replacement cover. Check to make sure it is the proper size and has the proper attachments for your RV roof vents.

    • 3

Remove any old retaining pins from the roof vent. Wash down the roof vent and area where the new cover will go. Follow the roof vent cover maker's instructions. Different makes have different attachment points.

    • 4

Test the roof vent cover by going for a short drive in a private area to make sure the vent is on properly and does not fly off the roof vent when the RV is in motion.
