How to Install a Power Vent in an RV

Roof vents help air circulate throughout your RV unit for a fresh, less stuffy feeling. RV power vents are the best type of vent because they move the air around more consistently. Most newer units come with power vents, but adding the vents to an RV that doesn't have one is not impossible. It could be a one-day project if you're handy.

Jig saw and blade
Drill and bit
Silicone-based sealant
Wire nuts
Screwdriver
Wire cutter

Instructions

  Find a place to mount the power vent on the roof that is free of obstructions such as wiring. Climb on the roof using a ladder.

  Mark off the location according to the template of the power vent.

  Drill a hole in each corner to make it easier to saw. Cut the hole and clean off the shavings.

  Apply the sealant using a caulking gun on the outside of the unit. Line caulking around the entire hole you cut. Place the top section on the roof and run the wires to the nearest electrical outlet.

  Splice the wires and twist them together using the wire nuts to make a connection. Mount the vent on the inside of the unit.
