What is Kansas law 8-1343?

Kansas law 8-1343 allows a person to assert the defense of self or defense of others if such person reasonably believes imminent death or bodily harm unless the person first retreats as far as it would be safe for them to do so.

K.S.A. 8-1343 requires a duty to retreat before defending oneself if:

1. It's safe to retreat;

2. The person does not provoke an attack; and

3. The attacker is not in the right (they aren't defending themselves).
