How to Transfer Awards Points From American Express to Delta

American Express partnered with Delta airlines to create the SkyMiles program. Cardholders enroll in SkyMiles when selecting their American Express card reward program. Points are earned for each qualifying purchase made using the registered card. The points are converted into SkyMiles on the Delta airlines website. The Delta Award Ticket site displays available seats for the desired destination. Ticket prices are displayed in SkyMiles and American Express points must be transferred into SkyMiles for ticket payment.

Instructions

  Sign in to your American Express account. Under "More Products & Services," click on the "Membership Rewards Program" link.

  Click on "Use Points." Under Travel, select "Browse by Airlines."

  Select the Delta SkyMiles icon. Confirm that your SkyMiles account is displayed. If you do not have a SkyMiles account, links are displayed providing instruction on opening a new account.

  Select the link under step 1 on the SkyMiles page titled "Search." The Delta Award Ticket site appears in a separate window.

  Sign in to your SkyMiles account on the Delta Award ticket site, if necessary. Enter your departure and arrival cities and states and travel dates. The site displays all available seats.

  Return to your membership rewards page. Under step 2, labeled "Transfer Points," enter the required amount of SkyMiles for your ticket purchase. Use the site calculator to convert membership reward points into SkyMiles.

  Click on the link labeled "Transfer This Amount." The amount of membership points you indicate are transferred to your SkyMiles account. You can only transfer the amount of points your account has available. Return to the Award Ticket page to pay for all or a portion of your ticket using your SkyMiles.
