Devils Tower looms over the primitive, seasonal campground on the Belle Fourche River at the national monument. The campground, open seasonally, has large, shady sites with picnic tables and fire rings for tents or RVs. Sites, available on a first-come, first-served basis, share water spigots. The modern bathhouse has flush toilets and sinks, but no showers or laundry facilities. Trails originating near the amphitheater outside the campground circle the park’s prairie dog town and connect with longer trails like the Tower Trail circling the base of Devils Tower.
Devils Tower KOA (devilstowerkoa.com), less than a mile from the monument, has a swimming pool, bike rentals, a petting zoo with miniature animals and a full-service restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The campground, open from mid-April through September, has large, shady RV sites, all with views of the tower, camping cabins and tent sites. Full hookup sites attract RVers, and some pull-throughs are large enough for the biggest motorhomes. Two modern bathhouses have showers and laundry rooms, and the campground provides free Wi-Fi to guests.
A more economical alternative to the KOA, Devils Tower View Campground (devilstowerview.com), less than three miles south of the monument, is a biker-friendly facility with a full-service restaurant and an outdoor dining pavilion with views of Campstool Canyon. The campground, open year-round, has improved RV sites with electric hookups and primitive tent sites, all with views of Devils Tower. Shade is scarce, and restroom facilities are pit toilets. During August, the campground draws bikers attending the Ham N’ Jam motorcycle rally in Hulett, Wyoming.
Keyhole State Park (wyoparks.state.wy.us) on the southeast side of Keyhole Reservoir is about 25 miles southwest of Devils Tower, but the monument is visible in the distance. The lake has a marina that sells fishing licenses, bait and tackle, food and beer. A concessionaire at the marina rents 10 electric sites. The state park has nine lakeside campgrounds with varying open dates and amenities. Tatanka campground accepts reservations, and has RV sites with water and electric hookups as well as camping cabins. An undeveloped beach-area campground has seven sites with picnic tables and fire rings.
