The campground, roughly 13 miles northeast of Lansdale in Green Lane, is open April through October, providing more than 200 rustic tent sites, full- and partial-hookup RV sites, trailer rentals, a camp store, dump station, laundromat, restrooms and showers. Two swimming pools, a wading pool, basketball court, volleyball area and planned activities, such as chili cook-offs and clam bakes, keep campers active and well fed. At nearby Nockamixon State Park, you can work off the calories with swimming, hiking, biking and horseback riding, and licensed anglers can cast lines for trout, bass, carp, perch, catfish and pickerel.
Also in Green Lane, the rural, wooded setting of Homestead Campground (homesteadcampground.com) provides a balance of back-to-nature experiences with modern conveniences. Full hookups, free cable TV, a country store, laundromat, dump station, flush toilets and hot showers are on-site at this year-round campground. Open meadows, forested coves and hiking trails are spread across the acreage, and a swimming pool, permit-free fishing pond and nearby Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom provide plenty of water-based entertainment.
Family-owned and -operated Little Red Barn Campground (littleredbarncampground.com) in Quakertown has more than 150 campsites 19 miles north of Lansdale. Conveniences include a camp store, dump station, laundry, flush toilets and showers. Pitch a tent, park your RV or reserve a trailer rental. All sites have picnic tables and fire rings, and most have water and electric hookups. The action-packed facility provides plenty of planned activities from April to November, including candy bar bingo, apple bake-offs and a Pine Run Derby. A swimming pool, volleyball area, basketball court, game room and playground keep campers on the go. Rock climbers can check out the crag at nearby Ralph Stover State Park, or brave the park's class III rapids.
Tohickon Family Campground (tohickoncampground.com) is a large resort in Quakertown, providing more than 200 basic tent sites and full-hookup RV sites. You know you're there when you hit the old Sheard's Mill covered bridge. Open from March to November, the campground has plenty of conveniences and recreational amenities. A camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms and hot showers are spread over 64 acres along Tohickon Creek. Licensed fishermen can try a bit of fishing at the creek, and boaters can take out canoes and kayaks. Hiking trails run through the property, and a swimming pool, wading pool and playground are on-site. The fun, however, doesn't stop there. A full calendar of events, including clambakes, dances, hayrides and pig roasts, keep campers busy.
