San Jacinto River, Texas Campgrounds

In such a big state, campgrounds are plentiful and offer many attractions. The San Jacinto River in southeast Texas offers both wildlife and access to Houston, Texas' largest city. The area offers historical excursions dating back to Texas' war with Mexico, canoeing, camping, and natural wildlife away from residential areas. For the family desperate to escape city noise and relax in nature, the San Jacinto River offers a quiet respite.
  1. Cagle Recreation Area

    • Cagle Recreation Area is located on the western fork of San Jacinto River in the Sam Houston National Forest on the banks of Lake Conroe. It is the newest campground with boat ramps, electricity, hot showers and restrooms, sewage and fresh water. This camping location is ideal for those who desire to bring some of the comforts of home. This campground is located near Lone Star Hiking trail, providing miles of hiking, equestrian, biking, and nature walks. Swimming is not allowed in this area but fishing, boating, and canoeing is allowed.

    San Jacinto Riverfront RV Resort

    • Whether you plan for a short visit or an indefinite stay, this RV park provides a beautiful view of the San Jacinto River and a close locale to Houston. The park consists of 33 acres with 300 full-hookup RV pads. This park offers cottages, cable, a fishing pier, swimming pool, rooms to accommodate a large party, laundry access, and recreational facilities for the whole family to enjoy and relax. This is not a campsite for wilderness exploration but a vacation outside of city limits and away from city noise.

    Double Lake Recreation Area

    • Double Lake Recreation Area is located on a lake on the east side of Sam Houston National Forest. RV hookups, sandbars, swimming, individual family units, and the option of electricity, sewage and water hookups makes this park ideal for families willing to interact with others in the wilderness. Families can rent boats and canoes and fishing is plentiful at this campsite.

    Scotts Ridge Recreation Area

    • Scotts Ridge Recreation Area is also located in Sam Houston National Forest. It is located on the western bank of Lake Conroe. This facility offers a boat ramp and more opportunities to explore the wild such as hiking trails on Lake Star Hiking Trail, birding, camping and hunting. Scotts Ridge offers fewer amenities but does offer camping units with hot showers and restrooms.
