Smoky Mountain Camping in Townsend, Tennessee

Townsend, Tennessee, also known as the "Peaceful Side of the Smokies," is located near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. According to the 2000 census, Townsend has a population of 244. In the 1600s, the Cherokee Indians settled and built villages along the Little River. Today, the Little River is a popular spot for swimming and fishing.
  1. Big Meadow Family Campground

    • Big Meadow Family Campgrounds offers guests 77 sites. Of these, 58 are pull-through, 19 are back-in and 30 are super sites to accommodate bigger rigs with concrete pads and patios. All sites have access to cable TV, electric, water and sewer. Wireless Internet hot spots are also located in the campground. Amenities include bathhouse, laundry facilities, playground, game room, fitness room, camp store and pavilion.

    Townsend / Great Smokies KOA

    • The Townsend / Great Smokies KOA Campground (formerly The Little Village River Campground) is located near the entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It offers 145 full hookup and tent sites. Amenities include water, electricity, sleeping cabins, laundry facilities, cable television and a game room. There is also a general store and a restaurant.

    Mountaineer Campground

    • The Mountaineer Campground on the Little River offers 49 RV sites as well as tent sites and full hookup with 30/50 amp service. Campsites are shaded, on grass, gravel or concrete. Amenities include a convenience store, dump station, swimming pool, volleyball court, playground, laundry facilities and bathhouse. Cable TV hookup and Internet connection dial-up are available.
