Campgrounds in Belle River, Ontario

The community of Belle River lies along the shores of Lake St. Clair in southern Ontario, just east of the city of Windsor. In 1999, Belle River merged with four adjoining townships to form the sprawling town of Lakeshore, which covers roughly 205 square miles. Lakeshore has more than 20 municipal parks and is within a short drive of additional recreation areas on both Lake St. Clair to the north and Lake Erie to the south. Six campgrounds -- all open to RVs and tents -- are within a 25-mile radius of downtown Lakeshore.
  1. Rochester Place RV Resort

    • Six miles from downtown Lakeshore, Rochester Place RV Resort overlooks the waters of Lake St. Clair. It is part of a larger complex that encompasses an 18-hole golf course, marina and restaurant. Its campground, open from early May until late October, has 274 sites, about 60 with full hookups. In addition to the adjoining golf course, the resort’s recreational facilities include boat docks and launch ramps, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, recreation hall, game room, playground and horseshoe pits. Among its other amenities are a snack bar, picnic tables, restrooms and showers.

    Leisure Lake Cottage and RV Resort

    • Leisure Lake Cottage and RV Resort, 14 miles southeast of Lakeshore, occupies a 100-acre parcel of land dotted with lakes. In addition to its 400-plus campsites, the resort has a limited number of furnished cabins and RVs available to rent. All campsites have picnic tables and fire rings. Open from early May through October, Leisure Lake has a wide array of recreational facilities including pools, a splash pad, sports courts, a miniature golf course and bike rentals. Campers also have access to a camp store, recreation hall, restrooms and showers.

    Windsor Campground

    • Open from mid-April to mid-October, Windsor Campground is 16 miles west of downtown Lakeshore. Its 200-plus campsites include some with full hookups, some with water and electricity and others with no utilities. Three lakeside cabins are available to rent. Active campers will find plenty of recreational activities, including beach volleyball, fishing, horseshoes, miniature golf and swimming. Among the campground’s other amenities are a convenience store, coin laundry, playground, restrooms and showers.

    Holiday Harbour Resort

    • Holiday Harbour Resort sits beside the shores of Lake Erie near Wheatley, about 22 miles southeast of downtown Lakeshore. A creek meanders along one side of the camping area. Many of the resort’s 120-plus campsites are reserved for permanent and seasonal occupants, but roughly 30 sites are available for transient RV and tent campers. Open from early May until late October, the resort has a variety of amenities, including a sand beach on Lake Erie, playground, bathhouse with flush toilets and showers, a coin laundry, picnic area and dump station.

    Campers Cove Campground

    • Open from early May until late September, sprawling Campers Cove Campground overlooks Lake Erie roughly 24 miles southeast of Lakeshore. The family-friendly campground has more than 300 sites and accommodates RVs, tents and travel trailers. Rental cabins are also available. Recreational facilities include a playing field, sports courts, horseshoe pits, playgrounds, hiking trails, a 1,200-foot sand beach on Lake Erie and bike and kayak rentals. Among Campers Cove’s other amenities are gated security, a camp store, coin laundry, restrooms and showers.

    Wheatley Provincial Park

    • Crisscrossed by creeks and nature trails, Wheatley Provincial Park borders the northern shores of Lake Erie 24 miles southeast of Lakeshore. The park has 220 campsites, 96 with electricity. Campers have access to comfort stations with flush toilets and showers at three of four camping loops, as well as a camp store and a day-use area with picnic tables, fire pits and water taps. Recreational activities in the park include biking, birding, canoeing, fishing, hiking and swimming.
