Campgrounds in Floyd, VA

The town of Floyd sits atop a high plateau in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwestern Virginia. Originally known as Jacksonville, the town’s name was changed to Floyd in January 1896. Forty miles southwest of Roanoke, Floyd is just a short drive from the Blue Ridge Parkway, which follows the crest of its namesake mountain range for 469 miles from Waynesboro, Virginia, in the north to Cherokee, North Carolina, in the south. Campers planning a trip to the area can choose from four campgrounds within a 25-mile radius of Floyd.
  1. Daddy Rabbit's Campground

    • Ten miles southwest of Floyd near the town of Willis, Daddy Rabbit’s Campground typically opens in mid-April and closes in late October. Only five miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, the campground has 54 campsites, all with water and electricity; eight sites have full hookups. Each site has its own picnic table. Also available are a handful of rustic camping cabins, each of which sleeps up to four people and has a full bath. Campers at Daddy Rabbit’s have access to a covered activities pavilion, playground, coin-operated laundry facilities, restrooms, showers, propane service and a dump station. A nearby attraction is Jack’s Creek Covered Bridge in Woolwine. Designed by Woolwine resident Walter Weaver, the bridge was built in 1914.

    Rocky Knob Campground

    • Located at Milepost 167.1 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Rocky Knob Campground is roughly 11 miles south of Floyd. More than 4,000 acres of forestland surround the campground, which is adjacent to Rock Castle Gorge, known for its striking crystalline quartz formations. The campground offers easy access to a scenic but challenging hiking trail that visits the gorge and varies in elevation from 1,700 to 3,572 feet. Open from mid-May until late October, weather permitting, Rocky Knob has 110 campsites without utilities. Thirty-three sites are designated for RVs, and the remaining 77 sites are for tent camping. All sites have picnic tables, fire rings and barbecue grills. Campers have access to a nearby visitors center, picnic area, hiking trails, flush toilets, drinking water and a dump station.

    Meadows of Dan Campground

    • Meadows of Dan Campground, 19 miles south-southwest of Floyd, sits at the intersection of U.S. Highway 58 and the Blue Ridge Parkway. The campground has 26 RV sites with full hookups and 12 tent sites with electricity. Each RV site has its own picnic table and barbecue grill. Also available are rental cabins with kitchen facilities. A centrally located bathhouse has restrooms, showers and a coin laundry. Among the campground’s other facilities and services are a playground, horseshoe pit, a Wi-Fi hotspot and a dump station.

    Horseshoe Point Campground

    • Horseshoe Point Campground sits along the shores of 2,900-acre Philpott Lake in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With 100 miles of shoreline, the sprawling lake offers a wide range of water-related recreational activities, including boating, canoeing, fishing and swimming. Miles of biking and hiking trails crisscross the forests that surround the lake. Open from early May until late September, the campground has 15 sites with water and electricity and 34 sites with no utilities. Amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, a boat ramp, dock, playground, picnic area and a dump station.
