Tent Pitching Campgrounds in Texas

Texas is known for its wide-open areas, mountains, numerous rivers and lakes, and its wildlife. Although the state has plenty of RV camping grounds, to truly enjoy some of Texas' remote beauty, you often need to stay in a campground for tents. Texas has plenty of these as well, including campgrounds on private and public land.
  1. Overland Trail Campground

    • The Overland Trail Campground has camping for tents, RVs or guests who opt to stay in cabins. The campground is located in Fort Davis, which the campground's website promotes as the "Highest & Coolest Town in Texas" with an elevation of 5,050 feet. The tent sites come with fire pits and picnic tables. Some of these sites also have water and electric. Amenities at the tent camping sites, which are located in both open and shaded areas, include restrooms, showers, a laundry facility, a camp kitchen where you can either barbecue or use a propane stove, a washing-up sink, a laundry facility and a covered eating area with picnic tables.

The campground has flush toilets, running water, grills and picnic tables. None of the sites have hook-ups for RVs.
