Campgrounds in Torrey, Utah

Torrey, Utah, is the gateway to Capitol Reef National Park. The park is a 100-mile-long fold in the Earth's crust that has created a series of canyons and formations along the Freemont River. The area is remote and did not have a road until 1962. It is has hiking trails of varying levels of difficulty. The area has a lot of wildlife and is rather remote. Thousand Lake Mountain and Boulder Mountain, also nearby, offer more hiking opportunities.
  1. Fruita Campground

    • The Fruita Campground is an oasis in the desert along the Freemont River. It is the only developed camping area inside the park. Orchards planted in the 1880s are still active and include cherry, apricot, peach, pear, and apple trees. You may pick and eat ripe fruit free, and during harvest season there is a fee for fruit taken away. Fruita campground has 71 sites that can accommodate RVs, pop-ups and tents. There are no hookups. Campsites have a gravel pad, picnic table and fire ring. Water is available. There is a visitors center bathrooms but no showers.
      There are no reservations taken. In addition to many hiking trails, there are also long scenic drives.

    Sandcreek RV Park

    • Sandcreek RV Park and Campground is five miles from the entrance to Capitol Reef National Park. Dixie National Forest and Fish Lake National Forest are also in the area, making it a stepping stone to a hiking and outdoor paradise.
      The park has 12 pull-through RV sites that can accommodate any size of RV. The RV sites have full hookups--water, sewer and electric--with 30- and 50-amp connections. There is a large area for tents and pop-ups. A cabin is also available.
      The campground has showers and bathrooms, a dump station and a laundry. Showers are also available for people who are not camping. Horses are welcome.

    Wonderland RV Park

    • Wonderland RV Park is three miles from the Capitol Reef National Park entrance. It is a modern campground with many amenities. It has pull-through RV sites for 75-foot vehicles and back-in sites for 60-foot vehicles. All RV sites offer full hookups--water, sewer and electric, with 30- and 50-amp connections. All sites have grass and trees. There are tent camping sites, and some cabins are available. The cabins have beds, stoves and refrigerators. Free cable TV and Wi-Fi are available, as well as a laundry and dump station. Showers and restrooms are on the grounds. Restaurants are nearby.
