Wanderlust World Wanderlust World The Pine Crest Motel is 3 1/2 miles northeast of Orleans. This rustic motel offers seven individually named and decorated rooms. All rooms include standard amenities, while the Eagle Nest room also includes a separate dining area, and the Cougar Cove room provides both a full kitchen and dining table. One- and two-bedroom cabins are also available for rent through Pine Crest, and these are on the Barton River. Opportunities for trout fishing, boating, biking, climbing and hiking are all within minutes of the motel, which is also about 20 miles from the Burke Mountain ski area.
The Carriage House Bed and Breakfast, in the Northeastern Kingdom, is six miles northwest of Orleans in the town of Coventry. This three-bedroom accommodation includes an outdoor swimming pool, fire pit, veranda and a private path that leads to a covered bridge. Guests are offered use of the billiard room, which also features dartboards and an air hockey table, as well as use of the parlor. Breakfast is served daily in the main dining room, or a private meal may be arranged in the East Room. The Carriage House is about seven miles from Orlean's Old Stone House Museum, which was built between 1834 and 1836 by Alexander Twilight -- America's first African-American college graduate and state legislator. The museum is a collection of six separate buildings on 55 acres.
The WilloughVale Inn, on the shores of Lake Willoughby, is about 8 1/2 miles southeast of Orleans. Each of the inn's 10 rooms is individually decorated and rooms may include a wood-burning fireplace, Jacuzzi tub, private porch, four-poster bed or locally crafted furnishings. The onsite restaurant is open seasonally and serves a selection of seafood and meat entrees, soups and salads. The inn's location on Lake Willoughby puts it within easy access of fishing, boating, hiking, biking and swimming. The Stepping Stone Spa and Wellness Center is 30 minutes south of WilloughVale in Lyndonville, just outside of Darling State Park.
The Newport City Motel is about 12 miles northwest of Orleans in Newport. Located minutes from the Canadian border, the motel is has two buildings. One building features simply furnished guestrooms with basic amenities. Rooms are accessible via an outdoor walkway. The other building houses extended-stay rooms and suites with added amenities such as separate living rooms and kitchens. All rooms in this building are accessible through indoor entries. The motel is within walking distance of the Brown Cow Restaurant and the Wok & Roll Chinese Restaurant. Other local attractions include a handful of local lakes, such as Lake Salem, Crystal Lake, Lake Memphremagog and Lake Willoughby. The Newport town boardwalk is nearby.
