Cabins in Northern Minnesota

Northern Minnesota is a nature lover's ideal vacation spot. Population is more sparse in the northern part of the state, and cabins and lodging can be spread out to be quite remote.     • Gunflint Lodge is in Grand Marais, along the Gunflint Trail in northeastern Minnesota. The resort is open year-round, offering activities such as horseback riding, swimming and hiking in the summer and snowmobiling, ice fishing, skiing and sledding in the winter. Special packages celebrating the different seasons and holidays are available. Lodgings at Gunflint are available as "classic cabins," "lake homes" or "romantic cottages." Cabins range from one to four bedrooms, and some come with laundry machines, full kitchens, saunas and hot tubs.

    Thunder Lake Lodge

    • Thunder Lake Lodge is a family-owned resort in northern Minnesota between Longville and Remer. Accommodations at the resort range from two-bedroom cottages to a four-bedroom cabin to two- and three-bedroom condos. The cottages face Thunder Lake amid the northern Minnesota pine trees for privacy. Cottages have decks, fire pits, firewood, grills and full kitchens. Activities, such as fishing, snowmobiling, hunting and water-sports, take place year-round at Thunder Lake.

    • Grand Superior Lodge is in Two Harbors, on the northern edge of Lake Superior. The lodge offers rooms, suites, cabins and log homes to rent, all nestled in the thick pine trees of Minnesota's north woods. Log cabins are available as one-room studios, one-bedrooms or two-bedroom units. Each cabin has a private patio area and kitchen appliances, and the larger units contain a living room and dining areas. The lodge has its own on-site restaurant and offers outdoor activities that are appropriate to each season.

    Dakota Lodge

    • Dakota Lodge retreat is on 6 acres in Minnesota's northern river country in Hinckley. The lodge is in the woods, with hiking trails, golf courses and activities on the river, including kayaking and fishing. The Dakota Lodge itself, which is a full cabin home with five bedrooms, can be rented for large family stays, or individual guest rooms in the lodge can be rented. The Kettle cabin has three bedrooms and is on the river's bluff. The guesthouse cabin is a cozy rental with two bedrooms.
