Lake George in Somerset County is a small lake amid the hills of central Maine. The lake is famous for fishing, with a recreational park and an ice-skating rink nearby. The lake has two small beaches next to the picnic and barbecue areas and a boat launch. The main activities in this area are hiking, boating, kayaking, snowshoeing, skiing, swimming, golf, snowmobiling and horseback riding.
The North Pond Retreat cottage, 28 miles from Lake George, is located right on North Pond on a secluded and private road. The upper level has four bedrooms, each with a lake view and a double bed. Evergreens Campground & Restaurant, a 25-mile drive from Lake George, is located on a secluded roadway lined with white pines. Each of the five cabins near the shore of the Kennebec River comes with single beds, carpeting, bathrooms with hot water, linens, towels, electricity, a porch, an outdoor fire ring and a picnic table. The campground has an on-site bar, a restaurant and a recreation room. Activities to enjoy around here are swimming, boating, hiking, snowmobiling, sunbathing, canoeing and hunting.

Located on the shore of East Lake and 28 miles from Lake George, Alden Camps provides lodging in its lakeside cottages. The one-, two- or three-bedroom cottages all come with a refrigerator and daily maid service. These amenities come with the American Plan, which also includes three meals a day. The resort provides "creative time" for kids after lunch each weekday. There is a natural sand beach for swimming and sunbathing.
