Lake Darling, which lies on the Alexandria Chain of lakes in the Alexandria, Minnesota, area, is a popular fishing destination for largemouth bass, northern pike and bluegill. The lake is also home to a small walleye population. There is no public access to the lake, but lodging for anglers is available at lakeside resorts.

Anglers will find a more casual, relaxed family atmosphere at the Shady Lawn Resort. The family-owned resort features eight cottages for rental year-round. Cottages are furnished with kitchen facilities including silverware and pots and pans, as well as cable TV and Internet access. Guests must bring their own towels and soap. An aluminum boat is available for use free of charge.

The Viking Trail Resort offers 14 lakeside cabins, three with decks. Cabin facilities include firepits with firewood, and grills are available as well. In addition to angling opportunities, Viking Trail offers other recreational activities, including shuffleboard, volleyball, basketball and kiddie cars. Cabins are available for weekly rental from the fishing opener through Oct. 1.
