A Singapore Packing List

Singapore is a popular tourist destination in Southeast Asia that is comprised of one large island and dozens of smaller islands. Many parts are untouched by Americanization and the dollar goes a long way. When traveling to Singapore, it is important to consider the weather as it is consistently rainy, humid and hot. This is especially true for the monsoon season from midsummer to midfall. You must pack accordingly to ensure you will have a comfortable and practical travel experience.
  1. Clothing

    • The key to dressing in Singapore year-round is lightweight, loose-fitting and comfortable clothing. This includes cotton and waterproof materials in garments such as T-shirts, sundresses, shorts, zip-off cargo pants, jeans and cargo skirts. Also include comfortable and durable sandals. Bring sunglasses and a lightweight hat to protect you from the sun. If you are going to be walking a good deal of the time during excursions and hiking, it is extremely important that you wear practical clothing that will not make you overheat.

    Rain Gear

    • Rain is always a part of Singapore's weather, particularly in monsoon season, which is also prime time for tourist travel, roughly July through October. Pack an umbrella that is lightweight, compact and durable; a waterproof camera case; a waterproof hat; a rain jacket; durable, waterproof hiking boots and shoes; extra film/memory cards and batteries, in case the originals get wet and a towel.

    Hiking Supplies

    • Most activities in Singapore are outdoors, particularly hiking and exploration. Pack a small hiking kit you can bring including water sanitization tablets, a small flashlight or headlamp, hand sanitizer, a durable water bottle you can refill, a mister fan and a mini first aid kit. Again, make sure to have durable rainproof hiking boots as well.

    Toiletries

    • Bring your usual toiletries such as travel size shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion and toothpaste. You can also purchase these upon landing in Singapore, which may make your packing easier. Bring mosquito repellent, sunscreen and something to relieve sunburn pain such as aloe vera gel. Don't forget a power adapter for all your electronic needs. Bring whatever medication you need with the prescription and a note from your doctor with contact information, just in case you need proof or the medication is stolen.

    Travel Documents

    • Keep a copy of all your important travel documents with a reliable source at home, in your luggage and in your carry-on bag. These include your passport, flight information, hotel information and contact information.
