Things to Do in Ohio in July

Ohio's approximately 11 million residents have myriad options for entertainment during the warm Ohio summers. Visitors and residents can take advantage of the state's temperate climate where outdoor activities are particularly popular.

  1. Farmer's Markets

    • Farmer's markets are common throughout Ohio in the summer. These markets often specialize in organic food and food from local growers. Some sell fresh produce while others sell baked goods, cheeses and other locally produced foods. Some farmer's markets have booths that appeal particularly to guests with families. Popular annual Ohio farmer's markets include the Bexley Market in Columbus that sells produce, locally baked foods and flowers.

    Water Parks

    • Ohio is dotted with numerous water parks that are popular during July and other hot summer months. Notable water parks include Wildwater Kingdom in Cleveland that features a water-filled basketball court and a funnel slide where you can reach speeds of up to 24 mph.

    Columbus Wine Festival

    • Columbus, Ohio hosts an annual wine festival, giving guests the opportunity to taste 150 wines from across the country and the world. The festival has wine experts that teach guests about the wine's growth, complexities and how to taste fine wines. The festival includes wine seminars and demonstrations, as well as food catered from some of Ohio's top-rated restaurants.

    Independence Day Fireworks

    • Visit numerous sites across the state for Fourth of July fireworks, parades and festivals. Some notable fireworks displays include those in Cleveland, Columbus and Cincinnati. The Columbus Independence Day festival caters to families and children, with period children's games, children's sporting events and a parade. Other celebrations include concerts patriotic speeches and various eating or obstacle course contests. Sometimes July 4 activities are on the second or third day of the month.

    Culture Festivals

    • Cleveland, Ohio's second largest city, hosts annual festivals in July. These include the Irish Cultural Festival, held at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds, celebrating Ireland through music, food, drinks and arts and crafts. The annual Puerto Rican Parade and Festival in downtown Cleveland in July features Puerto Rican food, music, dancing and folklore. The Great Lakes Medieval Fair in Geneva features medieval magic shows, sword displays and jester performances. The festival also sells medieval leather and woodcrafts, medieval-style jewelry, clothing, baskets, toys and pottery.
