How to Translate Km into Miles
Both kilometers (km) and miles (mi.) are units used to measure distance. While the U.S. and the United Kingdom continue to use miles from the imperial system, they are the only two countries in the developed world that do so. Therefore, when traveling outside the U.S., you will likely find distances indicated in kilometers. Kilometers are shorter than miles, with one kilometer being approximately 5/8 mile. By using a simple mathematical formula, you can easily convert kilometers into miles.

1
Multiply the number of kilometers by 0.62 to calculate the number of miles. For example:
160 km x 0.62 = 99.2 mi.
35 km x 0.62 = 21.7 mi.

2
Multiply the number of miles by 1.6 to convert miles to kilometers. For example:
55 mi. x 1.6 = 88 km
124 mi. x 1.6 = 198.4 km
