Wanderlust World Wanderlust World Perform a personal audit. Perform a daily walk-around check of vehicles, personal paperwork and living quarters. Observe the position and condition of each item and area while monitoring the daily traffic in and around the immediate area. Additionally, adjust the position of sensitive items such as paperwork or valued possessions periodically to avoid providing ease of access to would-be intruders.
Observe while driving. Make frequent use of side- and rear-view mirrors to identify any surveillance conducted by vehicle. If a vehicle mirrors your turns, braking and general direction of travel for an extended period, take a detour or safely change directions with little warning to detect a trailing vehicle. Additionally, make a note of a trailing vehicle's make, model, license plate and driver description.
Vary routes. Periodically change the primary mode and route of travel to frequent destinations. When traveling along a new route, observe whether individuals from a previous route or mode of travel appear on the new one. Make a note of the general description of the individual as well as recording information such as the time of day and the method of transportation.
Set decoys. Arrange items that appear to be of high or personal value in places deemed vulnerable to human surveillance or manipulation. Use a false bank statement or an item of clothing to determine whether personal items remain at risk. Additionally, observe the area of placement to determine disturbance in the case of a startled intruder.
Install video cameras. Purchase and install video recording equipment in sensitive areas to identify human surveillance. Install a camera in places such as entrances, exits and around vehicles. Additionally, review the recorded information frequently to determine and react to any threat.
