How to Receive Packages in Mexico From the USA

Mail delivery service in Mexico is not as reliable as the mail delivery service in the U.S. Regular mail service is much slower than what U.S. residents are used to; receiving a letter in Mexico from the U.S. can take several weeks or more. Sending a valuable package or money through the regular mail service in Mexico is not advised, as there is a risk of theft while the package is in transit. There are a variety of ways to receive mail in Mexico sent from the U.S.

  Obtain a mailing address in Mexico. If you are living or working in Mexico, you can use your home or business address. If you do not have a reliable home or business address, visit your local post office to inquire about renting a P.O. Box.

  Give your address in Mexico the person in the U.S. who is sending the package, and instruct that person to send the package. If possible, tell the person sending the package to obtain a tracking number to track the package's progress through the mail. It is also advisable to use FedEx, UPS, or DHL, as those services are more reliable than regular mail.
  
  The correct formatting for addressing a package to Mexico is:

  Receive the package when it arrives. Check to make sure all items are accounted for and are not damaged or lost. If items are damaged or missing, contact the post office it was sent from, as well as your local Mexican post office. However, do not expect the items to be replaced unless the sender purchased postal insurance for the package.
