How to Finish Edges on an Outdoor Carpet for Camping

Many people spend the summer months at campgrounds. This becomes their home away from home. Adding a piece of carpet to the ground area outside your camper makes your campsite seem a little more inviting to visiting guests. Placing a carpet outside your camper door gives people a place to wipe off their shoes before entering the camper. This helps keep the dirt outside, where it belongs.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure around the edges of your piece of carpet to find out how much binding you need. Purchase the appropriate amount of carpet binding tape. Sew lengths together if necessary or trim to the right length if the binding is too long.

    • 2

Use the utility knife to trim the edges of your carpet to remove any raveling.

    • 3

Lay the carpet, right side up, on the floor or outdoors if you do not have a large enough space in the house. Start in the middle of one of the sides of the carpet.

    • 4

Working a small space at a time, apply the hot glue to the carpet. Lay the binding on top of the hot glue, matching up the raw edges. Make sure to use plenty of glue to hold down the binding. Continue working all around the edges of the carpet.

    • 5

      Trim off any excess binding.

    • 6

Flip the carpet over so the back is up. Fold the binding over the edge so that all the raw edges are covered. Glue the binding to the back of the carpet using the same method in Step 4.
