How to Connect a Cellphone to an Onstar Antenna

OnStar is an in-vehicle security and communication system that provides customer service access in an emergency. With built-in "hands-free" communication service, OnStar allows you to pair your cellphone to its system via Bluetooth, connecting it to your vehicle. Linking your cellphone to your vehicle is a straightforward process.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the "Talk" button on your steering wheel. Press and hold this button for two seconds and say "Bluetooth." You will hear the OnStar system respond with "Ready," followed by a tone that indicates it is ready for pairing.

    • 2

Say "Bluetooth" loud enough for the system to hear. OnStar will respond, "Bluetooth Ready." Respond: "Pair." OnStar will reply, "Please start a search on your Bluetooth phone." It will also provide a four-digit personal identification number (PIN). Make note of this PIN.

    • 3

Activate Bluetooth on your cellphone. Check your specific model's user manual for instructions on how to enable your device correctly.

    • 4

Follow your cellphone's user manual procedure for adding a device via Bluetooth. Select "General Motors" from the available device list. Enter the four-digit PIN provided by OnStar when you are prompted to provide the pass code.

    • 5

Provide a name for the new connection between the phone and the OnStar system when asked. OnStar will confirm the phone has been successfully paired.
