- Be a Kentucky resident or attend school in Kentucky
- Have proof of identity and residency
- Pass a vision test
- Pass a written knowledge test
- Pass a road sign recognition test
Once you have met all of the requirements, you can apply for your learner's permit at your local Kentucky Circuit Court Clerk's office. You will need to bring the following documents with you:
- A completed learner's permit application
- Proof of identity and residency
- A $20 application fee
If you are under the age of 18, you may need to:
- Get a letter of consent from your parent or guardian
- Provide proof of enrollment in a driver's education course
Once you have submitted your application and documentation, your learner's permit will be issued to you. The learner's permit allows you to drive with a licensed adult over the age of 21. This adult must accompany you in the front seat at all times, and you must follow all of the restrictions on a learner's permit. You can apply for a provisional driver's license 270 days after receiving your learner's permit (180 days if enrolled in driver's education), if you are at least 16 years old.
