Instructions

  1. For Bermudians

    • 1

If you believe yourself to be a Bermudian citizen, you must first confirm your status as registrant of the Bermuda Status Register. This can be done online at the Status Register website listed below or in-person at the Government Administration Building in Hamilton.

    • 2

Apply for a passport at the Immigration Department at the Government Administration Building in Hamilton if you are confirmed as a Bermuda citizen. There is a fee charged depending on the exact nature of the services and processing time requested.

    • 3

Fill out Bermudian status form 5(2) and submit it with a long-form birth certificate and a processing fee to the Department of Immigration, by mail or in-person if you are not confirmed as Bermuda citizen. Following registration, you may then submit a passport application.

    For Those Not Bermudian

    • 4

Qualify for Bermudian status by documenting compliance with a set of firm requirements if you are not a native Bermudian, i.e. born in Bermuda to at least one parent who was also born in Bermuda.

    • 5

Marry a Bermudian citizen and remain married to that person for 10 continuous years, including the two years immediately prior to the application for Bermudian status, during which you must live together as husband and wife. You and your spouse must reside in Bermuda for at least seven years, two of which must also immediately precede the application. Also, you must be free of criminal convictions or charges.

    • 6

Make application for "grant of Bermudian status" to the Ministry of Labour, Home Affairs and Housing. You must consult the ministry or a qualified Bermuda immigration specialist to clarify under which section of the Bermuda Immigration and Protection Act (BIPA) you will be applying. An application fee will be assessed, depending on the section of BIPA under which you apply. This fee is separate from the passport or British Overseas Territory naturalization fee.

    • 7

Following naturalization, you may apply for a passport following the steps in Section 1, above.
